Pictogram Gallery

The pictograms included in the gallery have been developed by CATEDU in collaboration with professionals at CPEE Alborada (Zaragoza) and financed by the Science, Technology and University Department of the Government of Aragón and the Teruel Digital Programme. These pictograms are licensed by Creative Commons (BY-NC-SA).

Given the large number of pictograms (a few thousands), the gallery allows searching pictures by either, name or associated keywords. These keywords, which can be defined and edited from Tico Editor, by default correspond to the concepts represented by the pictures in different languages.

Download the pictogram gallery by clicking on the link below and add it to the application following the instructions in order to use it in the Tico Editor.

How to import the pictogram gallery into the Tico Editor

  • Decompress the Pictogramas_Color_110203.zip file. It contains the gallery of pictograms. A folder with the pictograms will be generated.
  • Open the Tico Editor, go to the Tools menu and select Image Gallery. Select Import Data Base.
  • Click on the Select button. This will allow you to select the folder with the pictures. Navigate through the application until the folder has been selected. Be sure you arrive until the last level in the folder hierarchy since, sometimes, depending on the way your "unzip" program works, there is a Pictogramas_Color_110203 folder inside another Pictogramas_Color_110203. Go to the deepest folder.
  • Click on the Import button and wait until the pictures have been imported if your pictogram gallery is empty.
  • If your gallery is not empty some pictures might appear more than once or different pictures share the same label. In these cases you can either replace a picture that is repeated or add the new picture to the gallery. Choose an option and click "Import". Then wait until the pictures have been imported.

How to find pictures in the gallery

There are two ways of finding pictures: by their associated keywords or by name. The result of the search is shown on the picture board in groups of four. Press the right/left arrows at the bottom or on your keyboard to see the rest of the pictures. If you press a letter the pictures whose name begins with that letter will be shown automatically.

Before doing a search it is important to notice that:

  • In order to search the Gallery keywords and not names must be used. In this way, a search can be done in the different languages.
  • A search by name is used with external pictures added to the gallery.
  • '*' can be used as a a wildcard introducing as many asterisks as needed and in every position. Searching by '*' will result in showing all the pictures in the Gallery.

SEARCH BY KEYWORDS

Allows us to do a search by up to three keywords.

There are two pull-down menus where either option 'and' or 'or' can be chosen. 'and' will result in showing the pictures that correspond to all the keywords used. 'or' will result in showing the pictures that correspond to any of the keywords used. These two options can be combined for more complex search tasks.

'*' can be used to select the keywords that start, finish or contain one or more letters.
